{"id":1986,"date":"2019-12-25T03:50:26","date_gmt":"2019-12-25T10:50:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artistedancediva.co.uk\/wp\/?p=1986"},"modified":"2020-12-07T19:07:51","modified_gmt":"2020-12-08T02:07:51","slug":"smartdancer-111-canons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artistedancediva.co.uk\/wp\/?p=1986","title":{"rendered":"SmartDancer 111 &#8211; Canons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Of all the core features of SmartDancer (SD), the Canon is, by far, the most prolific.<\/p>\n<p>While SD is <strong>primarily<\/strong> a tool for performing intricate\u00a0<strong>group moves<\/strong>, <strong>Canons <\/strong>also allow for dancers to perform predefined <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>SOLO dances\u00a0<\/b><\/span>which can be comprised of an <strong>animation<\/strong> and\/or a <strong>turn<\/strong>.\u00a0 By using the <strong>Vanish<\/strong> Effect you can temporarily limit the number of visible dancers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Canons<\/strong> allows for <strong>staggered<\/strong> animations and\/or turns in alphabetical or reverse-alphabetical order on up to 9 animesh\/avatars using the <strong>CanonInterval<\/strong> to provide the time between staggers and can be further delineated by a Target.\u00a0 (The default target is &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>abcdefghi<em>jklmnopqr<\/em><\/strong><\/span>&#8216;) or simply ALL animesh\/avatars\/palettes.);<\/p>\n<p>There are now 2 sets of animations you can choose from using the menu at run-time or a command at run-time using the <strong>SelectCanon<\/strong> feature.\u00a0 <strong>Select-1<\/strong> and <strong>Select-2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There are 3 levels of definition:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Level 1<\/strong><\/span>, the lowest level, lets you define a\u00a0<strong>CanonAnimation<\/strong> and <strong>CanonInterval<\/strong> for each individual animesh\/or avatar.\u00a0 You can actually define 2 for each animesh\/avatar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CanonAnimation1<\/strong> and <strong>CanonInterval1<\/strong> and <strong>CanonAnimation2<\/strong> and <strong>CanonInterval2.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Animations and intervals will apply to all animesh\/avatars THAT MATCH the current TARGET (target is a specification by letters of which animesh\/avatars (J-R) will participate in the next Canon command.<\/p>\n<p>Use the <strong>SelectCanon<\/strong> feature to select 1 or 2.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Level2<\/strong><\/span> lets you &#8216;<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>override<\/strong><\/span>&#8221; the individually assigned <strong>CanonAnimations<\/strong>.\u00a0 This override is defined on a nc in the Controller and will apply to all animesh\/avatars <strong>THAT MATCH<\/strong> the current <strong>TARGET<\/strong> (target is a specification by letters of which animesh\/avatars (J-R) will participate in the next Canon command.<\/p>\n<p>So if you want to use the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Level1<\/strong><\/span> <em>animations<\/em> and <em>intervals<\/em> then omit these fields or leave the entry\u00a0<strong>BLANK<\/strong> in the Controller on the<span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong> *channels<\/strong><\/span> nc.<\/p>\n<p>Or if you want to keep them in place for a consistent look then leave them as:<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8216;<strong>CanonAnimationOverride1,<\/strong>&#8216;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8216;<strong>CanonAnimationOverride2,<\/strong>&#8216;<br \/>\n<\/span>&#8216;<strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">CanonIntervalOverride1,<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">-1<\/span><\/span><\/strong>&#8216;<br \/>\n&#8216;<strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">CanonIntervalOverride1<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,-1<\/span><\/span><\/strong>&#8216;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Level 3<\/strong> <\/span>lets you override Level1 <strong>AND<\/strong> Level2 declarations and is temporary until you specify a new <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Level3<\/strong> <\/span>or a BLANK <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Level3<\/span><\/strong>. A blank will revert back to <strong>Level2<\/strong>. If no <strong>Level2<\/strong> then it will revert back to <strong>Level1<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Level3<\/span> <\/strong>is entered at design-time using the <strong>CanonDance<\/strong> button on the Canons menu.\u00a0 You will get the animation menu and the <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>next<\/strong><\/span> dance\/animation you choose will become the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Level3<\/strong> <\/span><strong>CanonAnimation<\/strong>.\u00a0 If you exit out without entering a value then <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Level3<\/strong> <\/span>becomes void and\u00a0 the <strong>CanonAnimation<\/strong> will revert back to <strong>Level2<\/strong> or <strong>Level1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong> Level3<\/strong> <\/span>override of <strong>CanonInterval<\/strong>, select the <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">[Groupings]<\/span><\/strong> menu then use the <strong>MoveSpeed<\/strong> button and enter either:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong> -1,-1,(interval value)<\/strong><\/span> or <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,,(interval value)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So then the <strong>next<\/strong> Canon selection will use <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Level3<\/span> <\/strong>animation and interval.<\/p>\n<p>When an animation is completed after the specified interval, it will automatically snap back into the previous running animation in perfect sync with the other dancers.\u00a0 If there was no previous animation then it will go into the &#8216;<strong>standing<\/strong>&#8216; animation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hold\/Release\/StopCanon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you press the <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Hold<\/strong> <\/span>button on <strong>CanonOrders<\/strong> sub-menu then the <strong>CanonAnimation<\/strong> will <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">NOT<\/span> <\/strong>snap back to the previous normal-running-animation and ignores the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>CanonInterval<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 You CAN trigger the synced-return to\u00a0he previous normal-running-animation by pressing the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">StopCanon<\/span> <\/strong>button on the <strong>CanonOrders<\/strong> sub-menu. This will <strong>Stop<\/strong> the <strong>CanonAnimation<\/strong> only.\u00a0 The <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Release<\/strong> <\/span>button returns the <strong>CanonAnimation<\/strong> to its previous normal state which takes into account the <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>CanonInterval<\/strong> <\/span>and returns to the normal-running-animation upon expiration of the <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">CanonInterval<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Switch\/UnSwitch<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Default mode is <strong>UnSwitch(ed).\u00a0 <\/strong>When <strong>Switch<\/strong> on enabled, dancers<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong> 1-3-5-7-9<\/strong><\/span> perform<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Select-1<\/span> CanonAnimations <\/strong>and <strong>Intervals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>while\u00a0 dancers <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>2-4-6-8<\/strong><\/span> perform <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Select-2<\/strong><\/span> <strong>CanonAnimations<\/strong> and <strong>Intervals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> <em>When the choice is <strong>AnimsOnly<\/strong>,\u00a0 just select any Canon button (i.e. CanonLeft, CanonHome, CanonTurnIn, etc) since there will not be any turns to accompany\u00a0the Animation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Forward and Reverse<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This button (<strong>CanonReverse<\/strong>\/<strong>CanonForward<\/strong>) toggles the order of the Canon. Either alphabetically (J to R) or reverse-alphabetically ( R to J ).<\/p>\n<p><b>Targeting<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Target<\/strong> <\/span>button on the [<strong>OPTIONS]&#8211;&gt; [EFFECTS]<\/strong> menu will allow you to control which animesh\/palettes identified by the letter in the 19th position of the name, will be affected by the Canon.\u00a0 Be careful to remember to reset this value if you previously set it for some type of effects as it will still apply.\u00a0 Eight special values exist:<\/p>\n<p>alt1 = jlnpr<br \/>\nalt2 = kmoq<br \/>\nall = jklmnopqr<br \/>\nmiddle = mnop<br \/>\nends = jkpq<br \/>\nleft = jklm<br \/>\nright = nopq<br \/>\nnor = jklmnopq<\/p>\n<p>You can also specify a range:<br \/>\nj-r<br \/>\nk-q<br \/>\nj-q<br \/>\nr-r<\/p>\n<p>And lastly you can specify specific animesh\/palettes:<br \/>\njklpqr<br \/>\njkqr<br \/>\nlmnor<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>ClearTarget<\/strong> <\/span>button will reset the Target to the default values with is &#8216;jklmnopqr&#8217; or ALL of the animesh\/palettes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anims &amp; Turns<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>TurnsOnly<\/strong> button <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>toggles<\/strong> <\/span>to <strong>AnimsOnly. <\/strong>Default is <em>TurnsOnly<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Press <strong>TurnsOnly <\/strong>if you want the animesh\/dancers to only <strong>turn<\/strong> using the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>CanonInterval<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Press <strong>AnimsOnly <\/strong>if you want the animesh\/dancers to only <strong>animate<\/strong> using the <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">CanonInterval<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Press the <strong>Turns&amp;Anims<\/strong> button if you want the animesh\/dancers to <strong>animate <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">AND<\/span> turn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that there is ALSO a <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>TurnDuration<\/strong> <\/span>(and <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">TurnDurationOverride<\/span><\/strong>). Turn <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">durations<\/span> <\/strong>ALSO exist at all 3 Levels.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>TurnDuration<\/strong> <\/span>should be close to the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>CanonInterval<\/strong> <\/span>so that there is enough time to complete the turn before moving onto the next dancer but feel free to experiment for different effects.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong><\/span>: <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>CanonInterval<\/strong> <\/span>determines how long the <strong>CanonAnimation<\/strong> lasts. Once the interval expires the dancer returns to the previous animation unless <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Hold<\/strong> <\/span>was specified..<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Run-Time<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are equivalent commands for the inborn sequencer that allow you to Select <em>Canon1<\/em> or <em>Canon2<\/em> as well as perform <em>overrides<\/em> and specify a <em>target and of course group<\/em>.\u00a0 <strong>RunTime<\/strong> could be considered <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Level4<\/strong> <\/span>because it overrides <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Level1<\/span><\/strong>, <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Level2<\/span><\/strong>, and<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Level3.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Exclusions<\/b><\/p>\n<p>You may be wondering what happens when there are <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>conflicts<\/strong><\/span>?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>CanonTurnIn<\/strong> <\/span>and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>CanonTurnOut<\/strong> <\/span>are restricted to Grouping by <strong>HALF<\/strong> or <strong>ALTERNATE<\/strong>.\u00a0 They always work between <strong>GROUP X<\/strong> and <strong>GROUP Y<\/strong>. They have no function otherwise.\u00a0 \u00a0It is the same for non-canon turns.<\/p>\n<p>You can use <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>FlipXY<\/strong> <\/span>to reverse the Groups in which case X becomes Y and Y becomes X.\u00a0 To see specific assignments of the 3 groups, X,Y, and Z, press <strong>ShowHoverTx<\/strong> button and the last letter of the hover-text will have the <strong>GROUP<\/strong> appended.<\/p>\n<p>Well\u00a0 the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>1st<\/strong><\/span> restriction is the <strong>Controller Name&#8230; PE18?-?<\/strong> . The question-marks (where they represent letters J thru R) limit what animesh\/palettes can even consider other restrictions\u00a0 with regards to <strong>Canons<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2nd<\/span> <\/strong>is <strong>Targeting<\/strong> which, if failed,\u00a0 can prevent any <strong>Turns<\/strong> associated with <strong>Turns&amp;Anims<\/strong> from executing.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">3rd<\/span> <\/strong>is <strong>GROUPING<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>X,Y,Z<\/strong>\u00a0can further limit\u00a0<strong>Turns<\/strong> which are subject to <strong>GROUPING.\u00a0 Grouping <\/strong>controls<strong> Turns <\/strong>and<strong> Formations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While animations are normally restricted by <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Division<\/strong><\/span>, <strong>CanonAnimations ARE NOT<\/strong> limited by <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">Divisioning<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Also, be cognizant of how the overrides work as described above as they factor into which animations and intervals will apply.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>COUPLING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Turn-Ins <\/strong>and<strong> TurnOuts<\/strong> and the <strong>HALF<\/strong> or <strong>ALTERNATE<\/strong> grouping.<\/p>\n<p>By careful formation alignment and <strong>Divisioning<\/strong> (i.e. AAAABBBB or ABABABAB), and mirrored or coupled animation selection you can magically switch to a multi-coupled (4&#215;2) dance configuration.\u00a0 By careful selection of <strong>CanonAnimations<\/strong> at the animesh\/palette level you can even do coupled-canons.\u00a0 Of course you can do <strong>Junes<\/strong> as well and you can do partial <strong>Junes<\/strong> because <strong>Junes<\/strong> are dictated by formations which are subject to <strong>Grouping<\/strong>. (i.e. an X June or Y June).<\/p>\n<p>And super-advanced, you can control over-lapping Junes that have a dancer or more, in common, rotate in opposite directions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Combinations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes you can do a <strong>JUNE<\/strong> while doing a <strong>Canon<\/strong>.\u00a0 You can also do a <strong>FORMATION<\/strong> change while doing a <strong>Canon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong><\/span>: <em>It is not uncommon to see some jittering as 1 command is trying to make the dancer move in one direction while another command is trying to make it go in the opposite direction or 90 degrees off.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>NEW NEW NEW\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Finish<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>AutoCanon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Of all the core features of SmartDancer (SD), the Canon is, by far, the most prolific.
