Order to Chaos to Order<\/strong><\/p>\n

That to me is the key to creation.<\/p>\n

And to me its the key to captivating group-choreography.\u00a0 I have seen it in drill-teams as well as in the arts and in nature.<\/p>\n

For SmartDancer (SD) a key component is being able to segue<\/strong> back<\/strong> into an orderly formation from a more disordered formation.\u00a0 This requires an in-depth knowledge of how SD perceives animations to work.<\/p>\n

The key is to have a 1st animation running that we can return back to after performing a 2nd animation.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If we STOP the 2nd animation then it will automatically SNAP back in sync with the 1st animation.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

There are a few tools at our disposal.<\/p>\n

StartKill<\/strong> and StartKeep
\nStopLast
\nFreeze and UnFreeze<\/strong><\/p>\n

Assume we have 4 dances called Dance1, Dance2, Dance3 and Dance4<\/p>\n

\nStartKill<\/strong> mode, which is the default, will cause the following to happen:<\/p>\n

Dance1 runs<\/em>
\nDance1 is stopped when Dance2 runs<\/em>
\nDance2 is stopped when Dance3 runs<\/em>
\nDance3 is stopped when Dance4 runs<\/em><\/p>\n

Then if we press StopLast<\/strong>, Dance4 stops and our dancer returns to STANDING<\/strong>\u00a0(or the standinganimation<\/span><\/strong>, because there are no more animations running.\u00a0 (Actually the standing animation is the 1st animation to run by default)<\/p>\n

\nStartKeep<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dance1 runs<\/em>
\nDance2 runs (Dance1 is still running)
\nDance3 runs (Dance1, & Dance2 are still running)
\nDance4 runs (Dance1, & Dance2, Dance3 are still running)<\/em><\/p>\n

If we press StopLast<\/strong>,\u00a0 then Dance4<\/strong> will stop and Dance3<\/strong> will be running.\u00a0 If we press StopLast<\/strong> again, nothing<\/span> changes<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0 SD only remembers the last dance<\/strong>. You do have some extended control if dances are assigned to multiple Divisions. You can stop dances by Division (A,B,C,D) but only 1 dance per Division.<\/p>\n

\nCanons<\/strong><\/p>\n

I like to think of SD as having ‘2 trains<\/strong>‘. The normal-animation<\/strong> train and the Canon-animation<\/strong> train.<\/p>\n

When you perform an animation on the Canon train<\/strong>, it automatically<\/strong> <\/span>returns to the previously running animation from the normal-animation<\/strong> train,…when it is done<\/em>. Canon animations run as long as the CanonInterval (aka CanonDuration)<\/strong>\u00a0specifies.<\/p>\n

We want to be able to emulate the way that the SD<\/strong> Canon<\/strong> works using the normal-animation method, that being…pressing dance buttons in succession, or sending them via commands to the SD sequencer.<\/p>\n

Freeze<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dance1 runs\u00a0 (this becomes\u00a0 the current backing animation<\/span>)<\/em><\/strong>
\n Dance2 runs\u00a0(this becomes\u00a0 the NEW\u00a0 current backing animation)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Lets say we plan to do Dance3 and Dance4 and then a Canon.\u00a0 When the Canon ends, we wish to revert back to Dance2.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We issue a FREEZE Command right after Dance2 runs.\u00a0 And then Dance2 becomes the FROZEN semi-permanent backing animation<\/span>.\u00a0 No further animations will replace it unless and until we issue an UNFREEZE command.\u00a0<\/em> StartKeep and Freeze work hand-in-hand together.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
